Projects
SGA has a vast portfolio of fire engineering and design for major infrastructure projects, which include extensive work undertaken for large scale building structures, railway depots, terminals, stations, retail malls, sports arenas, hotels, manufacturing + industrial plants and mixed developments plus existing buildings.
KUALA LUMPUR SENTRAL STATION
The project involved fire engineering for the station “box” and the extensive under-deck area that covered the rail platforms, Intercity, Commuter, LRT, and Airport Express train services, aswell as monorail and MRT services. The project faced numerous fire safety challenges and now serves as the central transport hub for KL City. Upgrading of the station is ongoing, and SGA continues to provide fire consulting services.
This Convention Centre is a focal point of Malaysia’s Administrative Centre in Putrajaya. It provides an international standard centre with associated purpose-built halls. Fire Engineering concentrated on egress travel distances, fire rating for structural members, fire compartmentation and deletion of sprinklers.PUTRAJAYA INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE
This Centre is attached to KLCC and provides an international exhibition venue with conference halls and facilities. Numerous fire safety engineering issues were solved including travel distances and discharge, fire compartmentation and fire rating of structural members.KUALA LUMPUR EXHIBITION & CONVENTION CENTRE
This major infrastructure facility handles all the inward andoutwards flow of people, cars and cargo by road and railbetween Malaysia and Singapore. Smoke hazard managementand having many different fire scenarios presented fireengineering challenges.THE SULTAN ISKANDAR BUILDING (BSI) CUSTOMS,IMMIGRATION, AND QUARANTINE (CIQ) COMPLEX
An iconic designed exhibition centre that has three floors of versatile exhibition halls and associated facilities. Roof heights, smoke control and egress form the main fire safety engineering issues. Fire resistance rating of certain structural members was also assessed.MATRADE EXHIBITION CENTRE
SGA was involved in the four parcels of development in terms of setting the fire safety strategy and Fire Brigades access. The retail parcel and transportation hub were subject to performance-based solutions for egress, fire compartmentation and smoke control.KL ECO CITY
The Elite Pavilion is an extension to the Pavilion Shopping Centrein KL. Challenges with smoke movement and fire compartmentation were faced especially with the interconnection to the existing Mall and entertainment facilities.PAVILION ELITE
A mixed development requiring fire engineering input on the massive shopping mall. Fire compartmentation and smoke movement challenges were faced and SGA was able to provide realistic solutions.IOI CITY MALL, PUTRAJAYA (PHASE 1& 2)
A high-rise hotel, serviced apartment and private residentialbuilding in KLCC. Fire safety engineering was used for the retailpodium and egress assessment was used to design a refuge floorwithin the high-rise tower.FOUR SEASONS PLACE
A very impression five star hotel with a large arch-like atrium of 3 connected blocks of hotel rooms. Due to the unique arched atrium design, smoke control proved an extremely challenging issue which SGA solved by innovated solutions.TABUNG HAJI HOTEL, KLIA
This project took an existing shopping centre, hotel and office tower and regenerated it into an upmarket international mixed development complex. The Double Tree Hotel is now part of the development which has two high-rise office towers all connected by a shopping mall and carpark podium.THE INTERMARK
Four major buildings were designed to accommodate the main production line processes to build Malaysia’s National car. Fire Engineering was used in dealing with fire compartmentation, smoke control and egress from the industrial buildings and deliver an efficient open-spaced design for motor vehicle manufacture.PROTON CITY
A mixed development having a shopping mall podium with SOHO units sole occupancy office and residential apartments in one complex. Fire safety engineering was used for solving compartmentation and egress issues.EMPIRE SUBANG
From an abandoned Mall development, this shopping mall was designed to represent a current retail experience. Numerous challenges were faced and solutions found for fire safety engineering matters.QUEENSBAY MALL, PENANG
Major upgrading of the Terminal building presented smoke control and compartmentation problems for the design team. SGA was able to find viable solutions to achieve the desired fire safety objectives.TERRENGGANU AIRPORT TERMINAL
This project required the interconnection of lower ground floor lobbies to the main hotel lobby and a main atrium connecting tothe ballroom and other function rooms.EQUATORIAL PLAZA
Comprising both a Transportation Hub linked to a Retail Mall, SGA was involved in the fire compartmentation and egress issues.PENANG SENTRAL (HUB AND SHOPPING MALL)
SGA was able to provide alternative fire compartmentation and egress solutions for Axiata Arena. Fire safety issues such as stadium seating flammability were researched and fire testing undertaken. Other stadiums studied included National, Aquatic and Hockey Stadiums.KL SPORTS CITY – NATIONAL AXIATA SWIMMING AND HOCKEY STADIUMS
This project was solved for fire compartmentation and egress issues identified in the retail mall.FOREST CITY SHOPPING MALL – PHASE 1
The BBCC shopping Mall had many challenging problems relating to fire compartmentation and smoke management. SGA continued working with the shopping mall fit-out team providing essential ongoing advice and technical fire safety input.BBCC SHOPPING MALL (LALAPORT)
SGA were involved in a number of renovation and upgrading projects to the existing Suria KLCC Shopping Mall. Various phased renovation projects required Fire Safety Engineering assessment. Isetan alterations and the redevelopment of the original Parkson floor space were some of the changes.SURIA KLCC (PHASED UPGRADING OF EXISTING MALL)
Due to certain renovations proposed at the new Wing, SGA has modelled new design fires and assessed hazards to existing tenancies.1 UTAMA NEW WING
This high profile mixed development is located in a busy area close to Bangsar. The shopping and entertainment area incorporates challenges for smoke control due to natural venting from a large open-sided atrium roof. The large basement carpark floors have uncompartmented floor areas which required close interaction with the Mechanical Engineer in the design of the smoke exhaust system. The renovation of the existing Mall occurred in 2020 and proposed air-conditioning the upper floors which originally were naturally smoke vented. A complete CFD and egress engineering design was required.DAMANSARA CITY
This new project by TA Group is a large multi-occupancy development. SGA’s role was to provide a Fire Engineering solution for the increase fire compartmentation areas in the retail mall.ATIVO AVENUE
Another retail mall project that requires assessment on the smoke control, egress and other fire safety measures to achieve the required fire safety objectives.TTDI SENTRALIS MALL
This project proposed an effective fire engineering solution to address common compliance issues such as fire compartmentation, smoke control and egress in a retail mall.SOLARIS PARQ
A Fire Safety Design Philosophy (FSDP) was done to assess the relevant risks of the chemical plant. SGA applied Fire Safety Engineering principles to recommend fire prevention measures and fire-fighting systems appropriate for the risk present on site.LSCHEM (CHEMICAL PLANT AND STORAGE FACILITY)
The development of phases 3 and 4 for the car park needed an assessment on its mechanical ventilation system. Thus, SGA used Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software to determine the necessary additions to exhaust smoke from vehicular fires.PLATINUM PARK
An independent audit was carried out by SGA to review the fire safety systems of the high-rise office tower, covering the basement car parks, 5 storey common podium, 21 storey residential apartment blocks and 33 storey office floors.MENARA SHELL
